One of my newest clients is Howard Fishman. I met Howard in December of 2008 and immediately fell in love with his music... so it's been great getting to work with him. Howard is an interesting artist as he has so many projects going on all at the same time.... While he has several bands and is recording several new records, he also wrote and recently performed in a play which just did a three night run down town in NYC's Abrons Art Center. I was there for all three, shooting two of them... hopefully once it's all edited there will be some clips online... what a busy weekend! Please stay tuned for more....

The other night I shot a amazing gig at le poisson rouge here in NYC... It was Matt Kanelos and the Smooth Maria's record release show for their new record "Silent Show". My buddy Serena Jost was the opener and was fantastic as usual... then Matt and the guys came out to a packed house full of people just as excited as i was to be there. Matt's sweet and charming style are more than enough to win over any music fan and his new record is something truly special. Once I'm done editing the video from the show, there are sure to be some clips online so stay tuned... A while ago Serena Jost and I made a music video for her song "Almost Nothing". A few weeks back we premiered it at the Gershwin Hotel here in NYC and after a successful event, we've just uploaded it to youtube. I'm really proud of this project and hope you will check it out!

For the past year I've been shooting live shows, recording sessions, interviews with Howard and various band members etc. I’ve been doing all of this in an attempt to document an impressive and almost insane undertaking of Howard's, making 3 different records all at the same time.

Beyond that, I've basically been trying to understand and illustrate what kind of person would take something like that on. My own curiosity exists on several levels. On the outermost level it's just an insane amount of work for anyone to heap on himself or herself especially in today's economy and with state of the music industry being what it is.

On a deeper level it also may be in some way, a way for me to attempt to understand the life that an artist chooses to live (and if in fact it is a choice).

The life of any artist whether they are musicians, filmmakers, writers, painters, dancers, photographers etc isn't an easy one and it's certainly not for the faint of heart. The question is, are they gluttons for punishment or just people who see the world a little differently and who can't force themselves to live any other way despite their precarious existence?

My project with Howard is in its final stages now that he is finishing up these records... I expect that the next few months will account for a lot of the answers to this and other questions of mine... or at least I hope they will!

Howard will have a CD release gig at Joe's Pub here in NYC on April 28th for the first of the three records. It will be for "Better Get Right" which is a wonderfully heartfelt New Orleans style brass band record. I'll be there... The way I see it, the release of these records is either the end of this story or just the beginning... Only time will tell which of the two it is.

Regardless, these records and their conception have been my companion for the past year and mean a lot to me. I've been living with the music and their story for a long time and can only hope I've been able to do it all justice in capturing this journey. Hope to see you at Joe's Pub in April! More updates coming as they become apparent to me ;-)

I was recently hired to shoot and edit a new music video for the wonderful singer/song writer, Josh Ritter! I had the pleasure of making the video with my good friend Liam (he directed the video and is also the drummer in Josh's band!) which made the project even more fun than I could have imagined and we are really proud of how it came out...

Beyond all of that, it's now all done and being featured (along with a blurb and a few photos) on NPR's website!
